Travel Day Three

Humm… it doesn’t seem like today had an official starting point, since we’ve been driving since 9:32am yesterday. However, the “new” travel day officially started approximately 15 miles east of Oklahoma City with breakfast at McDonald’s. We fueled up in Elk City, Oklahoma where unleaded was $2.89/gallon. We stopped in Amarillo, Texas for lunch at a Sonic Drive-In, then filled up with 16.89 gallons of gas for $50.00.

A few random statistics …
Once again, we got to counting semi-trucks. Thankfully, this time we were moving with them. In an half hour period, we counted 238 semi-trucks going east bound on I-40 in Texas. Commerce is alive and well in Texas!

There is a 35 mile stretch of highway in New Mexico that only gets one radio station and it is Spanish. Yes, we were in the middle of no where. Thankfully, Pete was feeling pretty good. We drove through Albuquerque, New Mexico (the largest city in New Mexico) and hit a huge thunder storm—heavy rain and wind! It slowed us down a bit, but we finished the day by finding a hotel in Gallup, New Mexico, just 20 miles away from Arizona.
