School Days

In August, I started my 13th year in Higher Education.  I love the rhythm of the school year. Coming back from a summer of rest and renewal (hopefully), followed by a fury of activity, then the ebb and flow through the remainder of the year, until commencement.

At the start of a school year, I think back to the scene in You've Got Mail, where Tom Hank's character says "I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils."  Ahh, the smell of sharpened pencils and new books.  A few highlights of this year's start of the academic year:
